Yankees considering using Judge as leadoff hitter

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Yankees slugger Aaron Judge could be used at times as the leadoff hitter this season.

The 2017 AL Rookie of the Year was in the top lineup spot for Friday’s spring training game against Boston.

Judge says it’s “something we could do in the season.” He adds that manager Aaron Boone wants to “get a feel for it in spring training before the games started counting.”

This could give Boone an additional option, especially when opponents start a left-hander or regular leadoff man Brett Gardner has a day off.

Judge says he might have last hit leadoff in high school. Last season, he hit .284 with 52 homers, 114 RBIs and had an impressive on-base percentage of .422. He walked 127 times but had 208 strikeouts.
