Watch Shohei Ohtani Strike Out Two, Give Up Home Run In Angels Debut

The wait is over.

Shohei Ohtani was one of the biggest names on Major League Baseball’s free agent market this offseason, and the Japanese star made his spring training debut for the Los Angeles Angels on Saturday.

Ohtani, who has said he wants to be both a starting pitcher and field player in the big leagues, tossed 1 1/3 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on two hits while striking out a pair and walking one.

Here are the two strikeouts:

The first run Ohtani surrendered was unearned, but the second one was a blast off the bat of Milwaukee Brewers center fielder Keon Broxton.

Ohtani struggled with his command during his brief outing, but he showed flashes of the stuff that made him highly sought after during the winter and will only get sharper as the season approaches.
