Olympic Torch for 2012 London Olympics Lit in Greece (Photos)


The flame that will burn during the 2012 London Games was lit at the birthplace of the ancient Olympics on Thursday afternoon. The torch-lighting ceremony heralds the start of a torch relay that will culminate with the game’s opening ceremony on July 27. A choreographed ceremony was performed before the lighting of the specially crafted traingular torch. The triangular shape was designed to highlight that London is hosting the Olympics for the third time — they also hosted in 1908 and 1948.
